Yes, it is as good as it sounds.
I’ve signed up to the Craft Gin Club (website here) who offer gin of the month subscriptions. You can choose between monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly subscriptions (I signed up to quarterly and am already considering an upgrade), then at the frequency of your choice some lovely gin and other goodies will be delivered to your door! The gins are all carefully selected with an obvious passion for craft gins and a preference for small-batch distillers. Alongside the gin of the month you will receive a copy of Ginned! magazine with information about that month’s gin, suggested serves, cocktail recipes and gin articles. You will also receive a “range of complementary gourmet treats”.
In September’s box I received a full size Conker Spirit Gin (a very nice classical gin, elevated with local Dorset botanicals), Ginned! magazine, a sample of Conker Spirit Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur (their new venture – a coffee liqueur that actually tastes of coffee and not just sugar), a BTW tonic water, a bag of Manomasa tortillas and a bar of Divine cappuccino chocolate. All the additional items seem to be thoughtfully selected with that month’s gin/theme in mind; in the magazine you will find information about all of them and why they have been chosen.
Each month they hide a golden ticket inside one lucky subscriber’s box who will win a one-off, special prize.
You can look back at the gins of months past on their website and they all look interesting and unlikely to be found on supermarket shelves. I really wish I had signed up sooner and received June’s box with the Warner Edwards HoneyBee gin, I’m very keen to try this as I am a big fan of the first gin in their Botanical Garden range – the Melissa gin. Unless I upgrade my frequency in the meantime the next box I receive will be December. I’m hoping for a great, off-the-beaten-track gin rather than a Christmas Pudding flavoured one!
